Welcome to the MSCC's Official Blog!

For years, the Wagonmaster and yours truly, along with help from occasional guest contributors would write up a 2-4 page newsletter called "The Yodel" prior to an upcoming camping trip to Mount Signal. There would be various content, some serious but most often not, that would report on the previous trip and highlight the plans and doings of the upcoming one. Copies would be made, distributed by hand, and mailed to campers for their amusement and to instill a sense of continuity and pride in this little organization that we call the Mount Signal Camping Club.

For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing Uncle Mel, he had a special way with words- an eloquent point of view tinged with an abundance of charisma that made anything he wrote a masterful journey into the English language, whether it was a poem, short story, or even a letter to Larry Himmel. I had the honor of being able to read some of his work that he would summon up on his manual typewriter, and though he didn't think much of them, I realized I was in the presence of a someone who moved me with his words like a Steinbeck or a Hemingway.  When I write today, I am constantly thinking, "what would Wasko think of this?" and his spirit seems to guide me along.
Marge & Mel Wasko
In carrying on the Yodel after he passed, setting up a group on Facebook, and now continuing the Yodel with this blog, I hope to keep his memory, ideals and the legacy of his MSCC going. He and Aunt Marge taught me as a very young adult an important life lesson that has always stuck with and guided me through my journey on this planet: that people and relationships are what really matter.
Spending time with family and friends, enjoying time together- laughing, eating and competing at games- are my happiest moments. All of us campers embody that notion when we meet out at a certain spot in the Yuha Desert under the shadow of Mount Signal, keeping the Wagonmaster's legacy alive and well at Rancho Del Wasko.
